DIY Deer Silhouette Pillows

This is one of those DIY’s that will probably take over my house and I will soon have these EVERYWHERE. It’s fun. It’s inexpensive. It’s easy. It’s quick. I could go on. I’ll spare you though.

Here’s a quick list of what you’ll need:

  • Pillow filler – or an old pillow. You can just take off the existing cover.
  • A canvas pillow cover (I used ones from Ikea. They’re only $4)
  • A stencil of your choosing. I used a deer.
  • Paint. I used acrylic because it was what I had lying around. You could certainly use fabric paint though.
  • A round foam brush.
  • Tape.
  • A piece of cardboard.

First I ironed the covers. I recommend you do this because once your stencil is on, you can’t.

Put a piece of cardboard inside the cover so your paint doesn’t go through to the back side!!!! This is so important. I want to tell you that I’m so smart and thought of this BEFORE ruining a cover. But I can’t. I learn everything in life the hard way.

Tape down your stencil so she stays in place. And begin filling in the paint using your foam brush. The canvas is a perfect material for this because the paint won’t run! Winning!

Carefully lift the stencil and let the paint dry!! And voila! Perfectly awesome stenciled pillows!!

Aren’t these the greatest things since sliced bread?! Now can you understand why they’re going to take over my house?! I want stenciled pillows everywhere.

I imagine I can’t throw these in the washer, so I intend to take very good care of them. They’re “lookin at pillows”. Just spot clean them as needed 🙂

Have a great one!!
