DIY Reclaimed Wood Chalkboard Wall

If there was an award for the most inconsistent blogger, I would no doubt win. Once upon a time I kept up on cranking out regular blogs, but these days I can’t get my life together. Which is weird, because now that the kids are in school, I have an abundance of time on my hands during the day.

A few things that have happened since my last post since I know how much y’all want an update on my exciting life.

Fall arrived in Ohio. Which is pretty much heaven on earth. I feel sorry for you if you don’t live in a place where the seasons change. It’s magical. The leaves are starting to turn and it’s just breath taking. Fall also means that Deer season is here! We hunt as a family (even my kiddos) so that takes up a good chunk of our weekends.

Just when I thought softball season was coming to a close, my daughter tried out for a travel team, and made it! So, we are still in full swing softball practices. No complaints. I was meant to be a softball Mom. It’s pretty rad. 🙂

I colored my hair. Woot woot.

I celebrated my 31st year of life.

That’s pretty much it. Try not to be terribly jealous of all that I have going on.

Now, onto the really important things.

I’ve posted a few pictures on my Instagram of my new chalkboard wall and there seems to be some interest in knowing how I created this beauty. Sit back and buckle up. Here’s how I did it.

I taped off the space I wanted as the chalkboard with painters tape. I painted it with chalkboard paint. I cut down some old reclaimed boards I had. I screwed them into the wall!

Seriously. So simple. I originally saw an idea similar to this one on Shanty 2 Chic’s website. I tweaked it a bit. They pocket holed their boards and built their frame before putting it on the wall. I just screwed my boards into the wall and framed it as I went. You could do it either way.

Typography isn’t really my thing as I am artistically challenged. I added a Fall To Do List for fun. We will be hard pressed to squeeze all this in, but I’m confident we can make it happen. If nothing else, it looks like we’re having a blast.

Thanks for stopping!
