Well, if you follow me on Instagram, then you may know what we did in the Kitchen…..but in case you don’t….let me catch you up.
I’ve been really wanting to switch things up in the Kitchen lately in order to add some seating. Our Kitchen is tiny…..like tiny tiny. The Island served a great purpose….it added some much needed counter space for all my cookie baking…cough cough. It added some extra storage! And with the barstools, we had a couple of seats!
Yet, even with all the greatness of the Island, I still always wish we had actual seating! The layout of our house has our Dining Table on the other side of the house – nowhere near the Kitchen. I long to make pancakes on a Saturday Morning while my kids sit nearby – so I can throw the pancakes in the air and they catch them with their plates. Haha. Ok, not really. But you get the idea. The Island wasn’t super ideal for the kids to sit at – to be honest…..I couldn’t tell you the last time someone sat at the Island. We just don’t use it.
Ok. So a few days ago I decided that I was ready to pull the trigger on “operation Kitchen Table”. After taking several measurements, we realized it might be best if you built a custom table for the space. This way we can be sure it fits and doesn’t swallow the Kitchen up hole!
We found a DIY tutorial on Pinterest, picked up the lumber and spend Sunday afternoon building. Then I spend all of Monday emptying the Island and figuring out WHERE to put everything…..this took ALL afternoon. I basically emptied EVERY Kitchen Cabinet, rearranged everything, got rid of a ton….and voila! The island was empty and ready to go!
Once I got the 17th coat of paint on the table (sigh) we moved her inside….dun dun dun…..and I hated it. Like. Really. I couldn’t find anything I liked about it. The table wasn’t working. It was just wrong. Everything about it was just wrong. I don’t know if you’ve ever spent two days on a project only to step back and HATE it….but it’s a terrible feeling. Really dreadful.
After a whined for a bit, I remembered this round table that I saw at an Antique Store last week! I called to make sure it was still there, got the measurements to make sure it was going to work – and went and picked it up!
So, long story short. I wanted a table. Spent two days building one. Hated it. Went and bought one. The end.
No but seriously. I LOVE the new table. I love the way it fits in the Kitchen! I love the extra seating! I just really love it!
