Sofa Swap!

Sofa Swap!

Have you made a BIG purchase only to later realize it was the wrong choice?!

I have.

Recently, actually.

18 months ago we bought new furniture for our Family Room. We really needed a new Sofa…..and after weeks of shopping and obsessing, I ultimately decided to step outside my tiny little décor box and do something bold.

We purchased the tufted gray sofa and a matching Wingback chair with nail head trim. They are really gorgeous pieces……but they aren’t “me”.

Here’s the tufted sofa we purchased….

The main issue with this furniture however has been that they don’t have removable slipcovers. I really believed I could make them work, but after 18 months, I’m here to admit how so very wrong I was.

Within the last week, my son has spilled an entire bottle of red Gatorade (reddddddddd) and smooshed his gum into the cushions. Kids.

I hate that I can’t just remove everything and bleach it. Bleach makes life so much easier.

This furniture is basically dying a slow agonizing death. As our everyday set, it’s just getting beat up.

We eventually want to upgrade to a sectional – or get a sofa and loveseat combo – but no matter WHAT we do. It WILL be slipcovered. It WILL be white.  So, until then I moved the tufted set into the Living Room (which rarely sees any human life), and our old slipcovered set back into the Family Room.

Much to my surprise,  I really love how much it brightened up the room again! The gray in our other set was a little too drab for my style!

So….long story short. I stressed and stressed about buying this furniture because I was so afraid of choosing wrong, and here I am – 18 months later and back at square one. Boo.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! 🙂

I am so sad that you had to find out the hard way. I love how your room looks with the white sofa. Can’t beat slip covered white.

I have always been afraid of white; however the more I see it in Instagram and Pinterest pictures the more I want to take the plunge! Your room is gorgeous and inviting. Great job!

Sofas are my biggest stress …we have kids and grand kids … So I always buy fake leather which I hate and the last two sofas I bought didn’t last me even 2 years ! I’ve decided to buy the ikea slip covered white sofas as soon as i can …. Love your sofas and the tufted one is beautiful…. I can see why you picked it . It wouldn’t have lasted a day here in my house .

I definitely agree, having kids makes it hard to have anything really. Lol. White is a brave color for furniture, but I do love it. It allows you to have a lot more freedom with additional colors and designs, and makes it easy to mix it up. I love the slipcovers! They give the room a very lived in and cozy feel, and best of all, they’re washable! No one even has to know what’s under them. 😉
